BEHOLDING AND REFLECTING THE GLORY OF CHRIST

DOXA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

OUR MISSION

Raising up children in beholding the glory of Christ in all His world

unto reflecting the glory of Christ in all of life.

The word Doxa means glory. We want the children entrusted to us to see, cherish, and radiate the glory of God. This means that what we are really involved in is discipleship for the whole person and for all of life, not just academic training. Whole-life discipleship is the core of our mission.

In order to accomplish our mission, we strive to be…

A Lighthouse

We offer hope and safe harbor to parents who are concerned about the ever-increasing challenges facing our children, and we edify students so they will bear the light of Christ in the world.

A Fortress

We offer protection, discipline, and rigorous training to prepare students to overcome the world and win future battles for Christ.

A Garden

We invite families into a place where children can grow spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially and bear enduring fruit for Christ.

OUR VALUES

The mission and vision of Doxa Christian Academy are centered around discipleship. As such, our focus is not on reaching the unsaved, but on building up Christian children and families. This is reflected in our core values:

The Glory and Lordship of Christ (Colossians 1:17)

He is our raison d'etre. Everything we do and teach originates from him and exists under his authority. He is the reason we bother to learn anything. If it doesn’t glorify Christ, we don’t do it.

Truth (John 4:23, 8:32, 17:17; 1 Corinthians 13:6)

  1. We recognize that all truth is God’s truth.
  2. We love God’s Word and God’s world.
  3. We love learning, and there is no horizon we are afraid to cross.
  4. We defend the truth.
  5. We train students to recognize and love the truth.
  6. We pass on the wisdom of the ages.
  7. Everything in our school is Biblically defined.

Beauty (Philippians 4:8; Psalm 27:4, 96:6)

  1. We deny that beauty is entirely subjective (Gen. 2:9).
  2. We want to teach the students to recognize and appreciate beauty.
  3. We want our students to create beautiful things.
  4. We want our students to live beautiful lives and bring beauty into the world.
  5. We want our school to reflect the beauty of God.

Righteousness (goodness) (Matthew 5:6, 6:33; Acts 24:25)

  1. We teach character and virtue.
  2. We want everyone’s behavior in the school to be pleasing to God (without demanding perfection or creating an oppressive atmosphere - see section on Joy).
  3. We point people to Jesus as the justifier and life-giver.
  4. We stay away from mere behavior modification, which is rooted in worldly psychology. We want them to see God’s Law, then the Gospel, and then to respond appropriately with repentance and gratitude.

Joy (Matthew 13:44, 28:8; Luke 2:10, 15:7 & 10; John 15:11)

  1. We want students to be excited about schoolwork and classes.
  2. We don’t boil them in their mother’s milk (Exodus 23:19); rules and discipline are meant to help correct and guide the child to the Gospel, not crush them.
  3. We cultivate a happy, healthy environment.
  4. We keep ourselves from exasperating children (Ephesians 6:4).
  5. Our rules are purposeful.
  6. Our approach is not disciplinarian: think more Maria and less Captain von Trapp.

Humanity

  1. We seek to minimize unnecessary electronics and emphasize in-person relationships.
  2. We emphasize time and play in nature.
  3. We have a holistic approach to education—all of the child to the glory of God. We desire that their minds be sharp, their hearts large, and their laughs loud (Psalm 2:4, 37:13, 52:6; Proverbs 31:25; Acts 16:15).
  4. We teach how to be human and how to live well in this world (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).
  5. We cultivate men and women who embrace and rejoice in their God-given masculinity and femininity (Proverbs 31:10-31; Psalm 119:9; 1 Corinthians 11:14-15, 16:13;
    Luke 7:24-25; Deuteronomy 22:5).

Family

  1. Our school operates in loco parentis—in the authority of parents.
  2. We offer a hybrid homeschool model so families can be together.
  3. We believe in a healthy work-life balance; we don’t want the kids to be overloaded with homework.
  4. We want families to be involved and invested. We cherish the presence of parents and grandparents in the school building.
  5. We desire that this school will partner cross-denominationally with local like-minded churches and families, in unity (Ps. 133:1; Ephesians 4:3 & 13; Colossians 3:14).

Excellence

  1. We teach the kind of self-discipline that will allow them to teach themselves new skills.
  2. We set and maintain high standards; we exceed the world’s standards by setting Biblical ones.

Victory

  1. We want them to come out of school fully trained and prepared to offensively engage the world for Christ.
  2. We train them to defend themselves and others against the dangers of this world.
A little about our school

Who We Are

We have worked to cultivate an environment in which our students are shown valuable things and are called on to bring forth excellence. It is our goal that the students take joy in learning as a result.

There is a lot of outdoor time at Doxa. The meadow, woods, swamps, and pond are places for both play and academics. We try to teach the students to treat every activity as an expression of worship to the God who made all things.

Music has become a source of unity and learning within our community. Songs can often be heard in our classrooms and assemblies. All students have music classes twice per week, and we try to fill in the cracks of the day with music.

Doxa is by no means a perfect school, but we aspire to be pleasing to God. Overall, our top priorities are that our students love God and love learning.
